Famous philosopher Aristotle once said, “it is possible to fail in many ways, while to succeed is possible only in one way.”

Do not tell that to the women’s soccer team who were able to combine excellent ball handling, suffocating defense, and a goalie that flawless to take two games from Northeast Conference rivals. The ability to succeed on multiple levels led to the Bobcats outscoring their opponents 3-0 in the two games.

During a Saturday game against St. Francis, the Bobcats shut out the Red Flash 1-0. On a play that is becoming all to familiar with Bobcat fans, seniors Melissa Ganais and Elisa Goncalves connected to score a goal.

Goncalves was able to score the game’s lone goal on a pass from Ganais. This was the second time this season that a Ganais to Goncalves goal was netted. The winning goal was Goncalves’ third in the young season. With the goal, she leads the women’s team in scoring. Heather Zaccone recorded three saves as she won her first game as a collegiate goalie.

During Sunday’s game, Quinnipiac again blanked its NEC counterpart. Against Robert Morris, the Bobcats were able to stifle the Colonials’ attack. Sophomore Cristina Salamone scored first for Quinnipiac off a penalty kick.

A short time later, Sophomore Ashley Lockwood scored, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead, the game’s eventual final score. Salamone’s game winning goal was the second of her career and Lockwood’s goal was the first of her career.

During an interview conducted for last week’s issue of The Chronicle, Zaccone, said that one of her goals for the season was to record a couple of shutouts. It only took two days, eight

saved shots, and excellent offense by the Bobcats for Zaccone to accomplish one of her goals.

After this weekend’s strong play against two NEC rivals,

the team looked like strong candidates for a post season run at glory.

The Bobcat’s season continues with games against non-conference opponent University of Vermont. Vermont is 4-2-1 through seven games. The Catamounts are a well tested team that should make for an interesting game. They have already faced Big 12 school Oklahoma State and a perennial soccer powerhouse Marist College.

Quinnipiac then looks to continue its recent success against Fairleigh Dickenson. The Bobcats were able to shut out the Knights in their only meeting last season. The Knights’ winning percentage is currently at five hundred, with a record of 3-3 on the season.
