Q30 News Live aired their first show of the semester last Wednesday September 3 at 11 P.M.

“I would say our first show was honestly the best we have ever done as a group since we came together in the fall of 2002,” said Q30 Executive Producer and News Anchor Eric Jackson. “Last year was a lot of fun and very successful but it was more of a transition year for us.”

Experience may have also had something to do with it. With the exception of one student who graduatedin the spring, all organization members are returners this year.

“I think the internships that people did over the summer instilled a lot more confidence and creativity into the show,” said Greg Glynn, Q30 Sports Anchor.

Jackson and Jessica Camerato anchored the show with Brian Kowalenko doing weather and Greg Glynn covering sports. Jennifer Shuster, who normally hosts the entertainment segment, was not able to make it to the first show.

The show began with coverage of freshmen move-in day and the freshmen induction ceremony.

Erica Conte then covered the freshmen’s first day of classes. From there the show informed freshmen about what Quinnipiac has to offer.

Jackson and Camerato both answered questions dealing with topics such as shuttle run times, clubs and getting from class to class.

Jason Greenwood, a senior and a resident assistant in Dana Hall, was called upon to explain probable solutions to freshman roomate crises.

Kowalenko let the campus know that the rain would stop and the sun would shine for the weekend while Glynn informed everyone about the status of the fall sports teams.

“I am really excited about this year for Quinnipiac sports,” Glynn said. “Many teams are expected to do well and compete heavily for NCAA tournament.”

Just as the sports teams are expected to do well again this year, so is Q30 news. New graphics, feature segments and faces are just some of the things viewers can look forward to.

That style could not be created without a lot of help, however. It is not just the faces you see onscreen that make the show what it is, but also those that you do not often see because they remain off screen.

But even with the few changes Q 30 News Live has made, Jackson assures the students that the staff will hold true to the same game plan as they did last year.

“We want put on a solid show every Wednesday night and keep the Quinnipiac community coming back each week,” Plourd said. “We will do that by covering news, weather, sports and entertainment Q 30 News style.”

Directors Adam Seigel, Jeff DeHaan and Eric Oppegard make sure the timing is on, the graphics and lower thirds are correct and that everything is runnin as it should.

For the first show Adam Brooks took care of the audio, Fabio LoNero manned the Chyron, while Melissa Carter was in charge of the prompters and Rob Schultz took control as the tape operator.

Behind the cameras were Melissa Scagliola, Lisa Finnelli and Claire Rosenberg. Q 30 President, Patrick Boutilier, was also on hand to help out in all facets.

While the show does have help, they always welcome more. Students who are interested are encouraged to email either Eric Jackson or Adam Seigel at their Quinnipiac email addresses.

The more help the show gets, the easier it will be to stick to their game plan and keep up the Q30 news style that has worked for one year already.
