The official start of spring is usually marked by the sound of the crack of a bat and the roar of the crowd.

Sadly, those sounds were replaced by the annoying drone of plow trucks and the incessant pitter patter of rain hitting against dorm room windows, all but postponing the return of the men’s baseball team to the diamond for an entire week.

With winter making a last stand, refusing to go away, games against Fairleigh Dickenson, Siena, Central Connecticut and Boston College were all canceled.

With the exception of the double header against Central, none of the games will be made up.

The Bobcats are on a roll, winners of their last two games, and four of their last five. The men’s team is looking rather impressive as they try to end criticism that faced many of its past teams.

Charles D’Elia (.356, 2 HR, 15 RBI .932 fielding %) is off to another great season, leading the team with twenty-six hits.

Albert Marano is third on the team in On-Base Percentage (.372), leads the team in walks (7) steals (3-3) and most importantly has touched home sixteen times.

The Bobcat’s bats have been able to keep the team in most of the games, as the pitching was off to a rough start. Dave Bennet has already matched his total wins from last season (4) and Mike Spahr (1-0, 1.35 era, 2 saves) has been excellent out of the bullpen.

However, the pitching staff has allowed 142 runs (110 were earned) giving the team a combined 6.78 ERA.

With a 7-12 record, the baseball team has twenty two games left in the season. Barring another snow storm in the months of April and May, Quinnipiac baseball still has enough time to make a decent run for the NEC Championships.
