Seniors count down number of days

Members of the Senior Week Committee ironed out the remaining details for the celebration in May knowing there are only 57 days until the festivities begin.

During last Friday’s meeting the committee began talking with the Senior Week event managers to see how close they are to finalizing their day or night event. The co-coordinators Felicity Melillo and Austin Ashe asked each event manager to give the latest report on their event, while Senior Week advisor Kerstin Soderlund wrote the schedule of events on two sheets of paper taped to a wall.

Tom Beline, event manager for Wednesday night, said he is looking for a cover band to play on campus for the seniors, and he is still deciding which novelties are feasible to bring to the event. The committee agreed to provide additional beverages, snacks, and fun activities during the Thursday day event at Paddy’s Restaurant on Misquamicut beach in Rhode Island. Event manager Jackie Langenstein will speak to the manager of the facility about adding these features to the day.

Danielle Vitale, event manager for Thursday night, said she has completed her event location, the time, and the entertainment scheduled to be at Toad’s Place in New Haven. Vitale said the night will include a dance floor and D.J., cash bar and a beach theme. Colleen Borowski, event manager for Friday day, has also completed her event location, time and activities set for the Holiday Hill in Cheshire, CT. The Friday night event manager Trixy Palencia said she has finalized the location and activities at the Omni Hotel in New Haven. The event will be a senior banquet including a formal dinner, cash bar, photo slide show, and a reception with a D.J. She is still working on food choices for the dinner.

Information sessions will be held in April to inform senior week participants about the rules and regulations of the event. Sessions start on April 14 in Alumni Hall from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., then on April 15 in Clarice L. Buckman Center from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., April 16 in Buckman from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., and April 22 in Buckman from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Starting this Friday, March 28, Public Relations Representative Rich Grassia will have the Senior Week website up for all seniors to check the dates and times of the information sessions and to view the schedule of events for the week. Seniors can log onto www.quinnipiac.edu/seniorweek.xml, to view the latest news on Senior Week.

Each year the Senior Week committee recruits a group of junior representatives to help out with the week, and to possibly lead the committee for the following year. Last week, Melillo and Ashe sent out an application by e-mail to all eligible junior representatives, and asked those interested to apply. The deadline for all applicants is this Friday, and then interviews will be conducted.

Committee members are still deciding on a theme and the Senior Week T-shirt logo, as the finishing touches of the event.

If seniors have suggestions or questions about Senior Week, e-mail Felicity Melillo and/or Austin Ashe at their respective Quinnipiac e-mail addresses, and look for next week’s follow up in The Chronicle.
