Senator Dodd reacts to diplomatic window closing on Iraq (Senator Christopher Dodd (CT-D))

My thoughts and prayers are with the more than 200,000 of our US service men and women deployed to the region and now awaiting orders. I hope that any military action goes swiftly and with minimal casualties. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of our service members as well.

While the President has decided to end diplomatic efforts to disarm Iraq, I don’t believe the window of diplomacy should ever be completely closed. While I regret that diplomacy was unable to achieve the peaceful disarmament of Iraq, it will be more necessary then ever to employ diplomacy in the coming days to forge an international coalition of friends, allies and UN humanitarian organizations to share the costs and responsibility for rebuilding Iraq in the aftermath of war.
