International Club helps promote diversity on campus

The International Club is an organization on campus that represents diversity and cultural awareness to both international and domestic students. The club wants to make sure that all students become aware of cultures of different backgrounds. The organization not only celebrates diversity among students, but also similarities that can be found in every culture.

The club’s goals is to provide awareness that diversity is not limited to international students.

Both national and international students are encouraged to go to the weekly meetings where future events are discussed and planned. The club will also go to different restaurants in town sampling cuisines from different cultures such as Brazilian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Thai.

The International Club sponsors various activities throughout the year including the upcoming International Students Week. The week will be dedicated to the diversity found both on campus and in the surrounding community.

The club will also sponsor a block party on Dorm Road. It will have a reggae theme, and there will be a barbecue and various other things displaying the university and communities’ diversity.

The club also hopes to organize a trip to New York City so members can visit the United Nations.

Aisha Khan describes the club as “A place that represents how diversity can be really fun. You get the opportunity to make cool friends all over the world. It’s like having an international family.”

Meetings are held Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m. in Tator Hall 113. For more information on the International Club, contact [email protected], or by mail at P.O. Box #56.
