    CAP spreads Hunger Awareness

In honor of National Hunger’s Homelessness Awareness Week, November 18-22, CAP is collecting turkeys and non-perishable food items for the thanksgiving season. All food will be donated to Christian Community Action in New Haven.
Thanksgiving dinner will be provided for those in need. Families will receive everything from turkey to dessert to celebrate the holiday.
Letters were sent to all Quinnipiac students, faculty, and staff encouraging contributions of food and donations. Donations can be brought to the student center Monday November 18th through Thursday November 21st between 10am and 3pm. Food may also be brought to the CAP office in he student center.
Free t-shirts will be given to those who donate.
In addition, CAP is sponsoring the second annual “Lend a helping hand for hunger”, a night of community service. The event will be held on November 20th from 5-9pm, in place of the annual hunger banquet held in past years.
The event begins in SC213 where statistics will be discussed to broaden people’s horizons about hunger issues. “Last year was the first year we did it and it was really rewarding. It’s amazing how many people are hungry,” said Katie Pataska co-director of CAP.
After the awareness session, the students will be divided into smaller groups and volunteer at various soup kitchens and food pantries in the greater New Haven area. “Volunteering can help feed so many people. It’s amazing how one night can make a difference,” said Pataska.
A light dinner and reflections of the evening’s experiences will follow. “It’s a night for us to recognize that we are grateful for what we have and to realize that other people around the country are not as fortunate as we are,” said Melissa Nappi, co-chair of hunger for CAP.
Sign up sheets are available outside the CAP office in the student center. For more information contact Karen O’Konis, x6621 or Melissa Nappi, X6338.
