Manicures, jewelry, bags… any buyers?

Have you been wishing you could get off campus lately to get a haircut? What about a new purse or some cute, funky jewelry? Well the next time you walk through the Student Center take a look around at all the vendors available for students daily.
Hope Zettwoch, assistant director of the Carl Hansen Student Center is excited about the use of these vendors by students and wants to improve them even more.
The majority of the vendors have been here in the past, but “French Twist,” a nail and hair salon signed the waiver and contract to help QU students this fall.
“French Twist,” is interested in becoming one of the many businesses available to students on the Q-Card system.
They have been offering certain days that they will do students’ hair and nails for free or at a reduced price.
“I thought that she did a good job,” said freshman Sarah Desrochers. “I was pleased with the results and everyone loved it.”
Zettwoch explained that vendors do this for a variety of reasons.
“Some are looking to promote their business and advertise, and some are just here for the convenience of students,” she said.
Some vendors, such as the jewelry and “designer” bag sellers, go to college campuses around the country with their products.
“I think it’s great to get designer products without having to go all the way to the mall,” said freshman Christine Simons. “This way it saves me money.”
The main goal for bringing these vendors to campus are to provide students with products that they do not normally have the chance to buy, even when off-campus.
“I think it’s a great idea to see these products on campus,” said freshman Jen Larson. “They are really cool, and we normally wouldn’t be able to get them anywhere else.”
One new vendor, “The Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce,” is promoting their annual Halloween extravaganza, where all proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The graveyard will be open Oct. 4 through 6, 11 through 13, 18 through 20 and 25 through 27 at 5 p.m. Coupons for admission are available at the vendor table.
Zettwoch is open to comments and ideas for vendors and can be contacted at [email protected] She is currently evaluating the vendors, but will be looking at new ideas later in the semester.
