Robin Williams returns in the modern day thriller “One Hour Photo.” In his last film “Insomnia” he played Alaskan psychotic killer Walter Finch opposite Al Pacino.
Williams seems to be taking on a new type of character unlike his previous roles such in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Patch Adams” and many other family films or dramas like his Oscar-winning supporting role in “Good Will Hunting.”
Playing the role as Seymour Parrish, Williams is not just developing his customer’s photos. He becomes obsessed with one particular family, starring Connie Nielsen, Michael Vartan, and Dylan Smith.
“Sy the Photo Guy” fantasizes that he is an intimate part of this family in which he has been following through their photos for years. He also loves his job at “Save Mart.”
Williams takes on a very disturbing character that only a great actor as him could pull off. His appearance is nothing like we have ever seen. His soft voice and eerie slow speech brings in another dimension of creepiness to the film. Without giving away the ending, let’s just say he’s not who you would want developing your family photos.
The film has been out since August 21 in select theaters and is now playing in a theatre near you.
Mark Romanek directed his own story with all the twist and turns in the film done beautifully. “One Hour Photo” is Romanek’s first feature film.
Since the early 1990’s, he has directed some of the most epic music videos, including R.E.M’s “Strange Currencies,” No Doubt’s “Hella Good” as well as Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug.”
Rated R, adults will thoroughly enjoy William’s performance that will surely give you goosebumps. It does have some foul language that might upset you coming from Robin William’s wholesome “Peter Pan” mouth. After seeing this film, you might think twice about dropping off film to your local “One Hour Photo.”
