Two more victories came to the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team as it defeated both the Princeton Tigers and the University of Massachusetts Minutemen this week, to continue its eight-game winning streak.

The Bobcats overtook the Tigers on Wednesday night by a score of 5-1. Caught in a no-score stalemate heading into the second period, the Bobcats erupted. Jeremy Langlois scored the first goal of the game off a pass from teammate Yuri Bouharevich at the 1:11 mark in the second period. Quinnipiac’s second goal, by Brandon Wong, followed one minute and eight seconds later.

Three more goals-one more by Langlois and two by Loren Barron-followed within three minutes of the previous two. Four of the five goals were scored on power plays.

Princeton answered with one goal in the third period by Dan Bartlett. Bobcat goalie Dan Clarke has become a major asset to the Bobcats’ triumphs.

“Clarke’s been outstanding,” Bobcat defenseman Zach Hansen said. “He’s been working his best and it’s nice to have a goalie back there that you can trust and you have confidence in.”

The team continued its success in their 5-4 overtime win against UMass on Saturday afternoon. Leading 3-1 – with first-period goals from Jean-Marc Beaudoin, Mike Atkinson and Scott Zurevinski – going into the third period, the Bobcats lost their lead.

The Minutemen answered with three goals of their own, taking the lead for the first time of the game. Going on a power play and pulling Clarke from the net, Quinnipiac had a two-man advantage in attempt to make things happen.

“I thought 2:28 left, you don’t want to lose an opportunity,” Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold said. “I know it’s a little risky, but we’ve been playing well. We’ve played well all night long offensively. [Paul] Dainton (UMass) was great when he got in there. But I felt offensively we were going to get the puck, so we pulled him early.”

The Bobcats proved that Pecknold made the right decision as forward Brandon Wong, with 1:10 left in regulation, placed the puck in the back of the net tying the game at four, forcing an overtime period. Wong continued his efforts, scoring half-way through the extra period, to give the Bobcats the victory.

“It felt good,” Wong said of his game-winning goal. “All I noticed was that the puck went behind the net and Langer put it out front, and it was just right there, and I just shoveled it in, tried to raise the puck as much as possible and it went in.”

The Bobcats return to the ice on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. as they travel to New Haven to take on cross-town rival Yale. On Saturday, Dec. 5, Quinnipiac will travel to Rhode Island to face Brown.
