Student sent home with ‘flu-like symptoms’

A Quinnipiac student showing “flu-like symptoms” returned home today, and was tested for swine flu, according to a MyQ announcement.

The test has been forwarded to the Connecticut State Department of Health, and the student is currently being treated with anti-viral medication. Results from the test are expected to take 1-2 days.

As of today, no cases of the H1N1 influenza virus, better known as the swine flu, have been verified in Connecticut.

The student reportedly showed flu-like symptoms at the Student Health Center. The parents and roommates have been notified.

“The University remains fully open and all activities, including final exams, will continue as planned,” read the MyQ announcement from Vice President for Public Affairs Lynn Bushnell.

According to reports from the Hartford Courant, two students from Fairfield University have been deemed “probable” cases by the State Department of Public Health. Tests show that the students have an influenza virus that is not a seasonal strain.
