The Quinnipiac Bobcats women’s basketball team held on to its large lead despite an attempted comeback from Central Connecticut St., defeating the Blue Devils (11-7, 6-2 in NEC) by a score of 63-57 last Saturday.
Quinnipiac (12-5, 6-2 in NEC) jumped out to a quick start, leading by as many as 17 points in the first half. Spearheaded by terrific outside shooting, the Bobcats shot 44.4 percent from downtown, led by Mandy Pennewell’s six three-pointers. The senior finished with a season-high 24 points, and hit key shots halting the Blue Devils’ momentum.
Freshman Jacinda Dunbar contributed to the victory, putting up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
In addition, senior and leading scorer Erin Kerner finished with 11 points. However, it was the senior’s timing and leadership that helped the Bobcats clinch the game. Kerner scored nine of her 11 points in the final 2:40 of the game, keeping the Bobcats on top.
The victory places Quinnipiac in a tie for third place in the Northeast Conference with Central, and only a half-game behind second place Robert Morris.
