    Aritist Highlight: The Aggrolites

Are you a fan of Bob Marley? Then you might want to check out a reggae-soul band from Los Angeles, Calif. called the Aggrolites. Jesse Wagner (Vocals/Guitar), Brian Dixon (Rhythm Guitar), Korey Horn (Drums), Roger Rivas (Piano/Organ) and Jeff Roffredo (Bass Guitar) mix the styles of reggae and ska to get a sound that is all their own.

Originally, The Aggrolites started out as just a side project for two bands called the Vessels and the Rhythm Doctors. In 2002, these bands worked as a back-up band for Derrick Morgan, who is known to be a “Reggae Icon.” They also worked on recording music for one of Morgan’s albums and then later decided that The Aggrolites should become a permanent band.

The Aggrolites’s first album, “Dirty Reggae,” was released in 2003 off of their Axe Record Label. Three years later, they released “The Aggrolites” (2006) and, soon after, “Reggae Hit L.A.” (2007). These albums included hits like “Free Time,” “Lucky Streak,” “Time to Get Tough,” “Dirty Reggae” and “Faster Bullet.” Every song combines feel-good rhythmic tunes and catchy lyrics, which leave you wanting more.

This band has done touring worldwide. They’ve been to places such as Russia, London and France. Also just this past summer, The Aggrolites went on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. On that tour, they played shows across the country. They’ve also played on tickets that have included Katy Perry, The Devil Wears Prada, Motion City Soundtrack, Mayday Parade and All Time Low.

One of the most unique things about this band is that not only do they put on a tight and enjoyable show, but they are also very professional. Seriously, how many bands do you know of where all the band members wear matching outfits? For example, while they were on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, on many occasions you could see the members wearing matching jumpsuits or regular suits with a ties. This is one classy group!

All in all, The Aggrolites is one of the most unique bands out there today. In an era where way too many groups sound the same, it’s nice to have a group that is like a breath of fresh air. Their tunes can turn any bad day into a good one and their lyrics will have you singing along in no time. You will definitely want to check out these guys. For more information, be sure to check out the band’s Web site (www.aggroreggae.com) and MySpace page (www.myspace.com/theaggrolites).
