Senior Heather Cady (Field Hockey), junior Allison Jaquith (Soccer) and junior Heather Wollyung (Volleyball) all earned Northeast Conference players of the week for the week of September 16-22 in their respective sports.
Cady had two big games in wins over the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and St. Francis. She had a goal against UMBC and recorded 2 goals and 3 assists vs. St. Francis. She helped her team up their record to 4-1 in the conference. “We want to keep the winning streak going,” she said. If the Braves win the NEC, they earn a trip to California for the NCAA tournament.
Cady isn’t selfish. Goals are not the reason why she plays. “As long as it gets in the goal” is her theory. A rigorous off-season training ritual as made her season, thus far, a success. Along with running, she practices stick agility and works on her footwork.
Women’s soccer star Jaquith had a solid week. She scored a goal in a win over Mt. St. Mary’s. Then, against UMBC, she scored a 2nd half goal to break a 1-1 tie. “I worked the ball from the back, and was able to come through with the goal,” Jaquith said.
This increased the defending NEC champions record to 4-2 and 2-0 in the conference. What may make this team a success is that it is a year round commitment. During the summer, Jaquith mentioned that the team meets to workout together. They work on any area that needs improvement. What also gets improved is the bond they all share on the soccer field.
Wollyung may have had the most significant week as a Quinnipiac athlete. Along with being named player of the week for the NEC, Heather recorded 31 and 28 kills respectively in wins over Rider and LIU. The 31 kills versus Rider is a season high. Before the wins, the Braves Volleyball team was 1-7. This may prove to be critical wins that could jumpstart the team into a successful run.
