Forget the pro-decriminalization debate for a second. For that matter, forget the anti-decriminalization debate.
Please stop selling drugs on the Quinnipiac campus.
Don’t stop it for the police, the University, or to keep your own criminal record clean. Stop it for the everyone else living on campus.
Students expect safety and security at college, but additionally, a sense of comfort. In an atmosphere devoted to learning and education, all residents must be able to clear their mind of any distractions. But when you bring marijuana or cocaine on campus, and worse, sell it, you take away the comfort of everyone around you.
“Yeah, we get cops here just about every week,” one student told The Chronicle after the arrest of freshmen Mathew Scherl and Bradley Burkhard.
That atmosphere is exactly the opposite of a successful learning environment.
More recently, freshman Peter Moran was arrested with alleged possession of nearly 60 grams of marijuana on Feb. 19. Had I been Moran’s roommate, I would not have been a fan of such property.
[CORRECTION: In the above paragraph, the article in the printed edition referenced Moran’s “roommates.” Irma, Moran’s residence, currently has two-person rooms.]
We all must regain a sense of respect for the Quinnipiac community–not particularly the faculty or the administration, but the students. We all live together under the Quinnipiac banner, and we decide how to interact on campus. We all have the final say in how safe, how tolerant, and how active the Quinnipiac community is. The only thing we are defined by is ourselves.
If you are selling drugs on this campus, you are affecting the security and livelihood of your peers, and effecting a perforation in our community.
Don’t bring Quinnipiac security into our community. Don’t bring the Hamden Police Department into our community. Don’t do illegal things. Deal?
YES! • Apr 28, 2010 at 10:06 am
Yes! Finally! A voice of reason about the horrors selling marijuana on campus!
This is no joke; marijuana sales on campus are the most detrimental, not to mention illegal, problem our campus faces.
Nevermind underage and inexperienced college freshman drinking themselves into the hospital to get their stomachs pumped. Nothing screams ‘failure’ more than sitting around on Friday night than sitting on your couch with your roommates playing NHL ’09 when you should be getting wasted at Toad’s with that fake ID you bought from that kid down the hall.
And as far as selling marijuana on a safe, protected campus, these delinquents- no, criminals, deserve to go to Bridgeport or New Haven to risk their lives to grab a sack of grass. Absolutely disgusting habit for disgusting people.
This is such a detriment to the health of our students too. Nevermind that the bookstore offers a wide variety of cigarettes at an extensively marked up price, the real harm is vaporizing THC in privacy of your own room and inhaling all the toxic, lethal poisons contained in that devils plant.
It’s about time someone brings a voice of reason to Quinnipiac University about just how much worse for you marijuana is than everything else that is permitted to go on at this campus.

This article is severely lacking for one reason. You say that it is dangerous for kids to sell weed on campus. But you never tell us why.
responsibleuser • Apr 28, 2010 at 10:12 am
now that I think about it, you were probably just trolling for comments with this story anyway
You already know • Mar 25, 2010 at 1:51 pm
I’m a little confused for why using drugs affects so many people. Yes, i agree that harmful drugs such as cocaine, heroin ect. are to be taken seriously but marijuana? Are you joking me, the nation is on the edge of legalizing it already. And are you afraid that its endangering other students? In case you have never tried the drug, the most your likely to do is watch TV or play video games laughing with your friends. Personally, if everyone did smoke marijuana it would probably prevent fights because it relaxes you.
Should I also mention that smoking a cigarette right in front of authority is completely fine as they watch you suck in over 4,000 chemicals into your lungs that are just waiting to kill you while it is scientifically proven that marijuana is a lot healthier than cigarettes and even if smoked marijuana everyday your chances for lung cancer or other disease is greatly minimized. Oh, did I forget to mention that cigarettes are addictive while marijuana is completely addictive-free.
So how bout all you haters out there let it go because who are you to stop someone from getting high for their pleasure. They aren’t hurting you, so let them be or just **** off

Alright man. I don’t usually comment on these articles, but this one hits close to home. First of all, Pete Moran lived in Irma, which means that he had 1 roommate… not plural. You know this because it’s included in an article that YOU WROTE! Second, you say that this roommate was “not a fan of such property”. Really? Did you personally speak to this roommate? I happen to know for a fact that you didn’t. Don’t put words in anyone’s mouth. Honestly, you need to go back to Journalism 101 before this paper lets you put out another article.

You speak the truth, “anonymous,” and I stand corrected. I definitely should have looked that through again before publishing it. I promise to try my hardest to avoid any mistakes like that in the future.
Thanks for the kick in the butt, and I apologize for any issues I created,
Joe P.
Not a big deal • Mar 8, 2010 at 11:34 pm
I don’t feel like student-student drug sales are compromising Quinnipiac’s security, but rather the Dominoes driver that pulls up in a BMW. Yeah, he’s selling a little more than pizza. As someone said before, you’re not going to get people to stop doing drugs; they’re a part of every society and have been for years. As long as there isn’t any violence brought about by these “transactions” then I’m perfectly content ignoring them.
However, the moment some scumbag pulls a knife or gun on some kid or starts a fight because of drugs, I’ll be worried. But, at present with the way Quinnipiac Security overreacts with each drug arrest, I don’t think that will happen for a while.
lol • Mar 8, 2010 at 7:43 pm
lol so whats next a follow up pleading kids to stop doing drugs? lol i mean hell we wouldnt have drug dealers if there wasnt anyone to deal to 😉
Getyapartna • Mar 8, 2010 at 7:30 pm
” Don’t do illegal things. Deal?”
So im assuming a majority of the campus undertakes in consuming alcohol…drinking age is still 21 i believe so that makes it illegal as well. I’m wondering how the people that don’t associate with anything to do with the drugs feel threatened in any way. When’s the last time you’ve heard of a kid cracked out on some pot running around disrupting the learning environment?
and for the ****** talking out of his *** about how our school is made up of a bunch of kids that have stuff paid for them…obviously you don’t know **** about a majority of the kids that go here
drugs are going to be here and people are going to partake in them let the kids get caught that are doing them.
big deal theres a few cops running around…rather have them around trying to bust some kids with drugs just in case some crazy kid all high on that marijuana stuff decides to run around compromising the safety of our students

haha, don’t bring quinnipiac security out of our community? was that really a sentence in this article?
drugs have been a part of all societies and that is never ever going to change.
not condoning it, just saying. if you argue with that then you’re an idiot.
Jacobb G. • Mar 4, 2010 at 3:38 pm
um, no. that wasn’t a sentence.
asd • Mar 4, 2010 at 3:39 pm
into our community*
cool • Mar 4, 2010 at 9:31 am

Jacobb G. • Mar 4, 2010 at 10:55 am
such a dumb comment by such a dumb person.
c'mon1988 • Mar 4, 2010 at 11:31 am
yea, its so dumb to go to an expensive college someone probably other than you pays for and stay out of this stuff… Honestly, why are you selling drugs if u go to QU? You can ask your parents to shell out over $40,000 plus a car and insurance but you can’t ask them for that extra few hundred to use for Toad’s Place or get a job, or even sell stuff on Ebay?
really? • Mar 4, 2010 at 3:39 pm
you’re serious right now?
everybody here pays 40 grand to go here, and has their parents pay for their car insurance?
have you ever heard of financial aid, scholarships or paying your own way through school?
i’m so sure i’m going to ask my parents for “a few hundred bucks” to go to toad’s place. what kind of white collar cushiony millionaire household do you live under?
mc • Mar 3, 2010 at 7:48 pm
agreed. agreed. agreed. agreed & agreed.
freshman • Apr 28, 2010 at 10:10 am
hey mc, I like the fact that I know that you have bought on campus before. hypocrite
freshman • Apr 28, 2010 at 10:15 am
so when the author’s friends get called out with the truth we moderate the comments. forget freedom of speech right?
freshman • Apr 28, 2010 at 10:17 am
I stand corrected, and I apologize. How should I make it up to you, Chronicle?
