The Quinnipiac women’s volleyball team picked up its 11th win on the season and seventh win in conference play in dominating fashion over the visiting Saint Peter’s Peacocks in three sets on Saturday, Nov. 9.

With this victory, Quinnipiac is now the sixth seed in the MAAC. Head coach Kyle Robinson spoke about why he is not nervous heading into the playoffs.

“I was nervous when my first child was born,” Robinson said. “I get nervous on Christmas, but this is work. This is what we do. This is what we love. We’re excited. Yeah, you know it is what it is. We can’t control anything except for the things we can control. So we will get here tomorrow and work hard.”

Sophomore outside hitter Ogla Zampati led the team on offense with nine kills and 12.5 points. Quinnipiac distributed the ball effectively, finishing with 38 assists, compared to Saint Peter’s 27. Freshman outside hitter Aryanah Diaz led the team in assists with 22.

The first set went back and forth through the first 31 points, when the Bobcats were down 16-15. The Bobcats broke this trend with a 9-1 run, giving themselves a 24-17 lead. From that point on, the Bobcats were in control, closing the set out winning six of the last eight points.

Quinnipiac’s momentum carried over into the second set as it won the first eight points. Saint Peter’s responded well after calling a timeout down 7-0 and cut the deficit to 9-6.

Quinnipiac dominated the rest of the set and won by a score of 25-12. The biggest difference in the set was the hitting percentage, with Saint Peter’s at -.100%, while Quinnipiac was at .294%. Quinnipiac would outplay Saint Peter’s in this category in all three sets.

Diaz stressed that the team needs to keep the same mentality throughout the game.

“I think just focusing on finishing games,” Diaz said. “We struggle a little bit with that. Just staying consistent and being aggressive throughout the game. Sometimes we take our foot off the pedal a little bit, but we just gotta keep being confident in ourselves and keep pushing and finish the game out.”

After Saint Peter’s won three straight points out of its timeout down 12-16, Quinnipiac answered by winning three consecutive of its own. The Bobcats won the set 25-21. Junior right side hitter Morgan Sherwin closed the match out with a kill.

The Bobcats will put their three-game winning streak on the line tomorrow vs. Rider at Burt Kahn Court on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
