There’s nothing scary about QU after dark

If you are looking for something to do on the weekend other than partying in New Haven, QUAD or QU After Dark gives students that alternative. QUAD is responsible for putting on activities on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“QUAD is a lot of fun. I don’t really like to go to the clubs on the weekend and QUAD is a good alternative to that party scene, ” freshman communications major and event coordinator for QUAD Brian Jacobson said.

He joined QUAD in the beginning of his freshman year and throughout the semester, he became increasingly active within the organization. At the end of his first semester Jacobson successfully applied to be an event coordinator.

The organization is led by four Quinnipiac students; Carly Matichak, the graduate assistant, and the four event coordinators, junior spanish major Allie Wright, freshman marketing major Brette Petty, junior marketing major Sean Fisher and Jacobson.

Each of the event coordinators is in charge of a team of three or four QUAD members, and each week the teams meet to discuss which activities they wish to organize and run for the weekends ahead.

Freshman Samantha Schlemm signed up to join QUAD at the freshmen involvement fair this year.

“I went to the first meeting just to see what it was all about,” Schlemm said, “I had a good time and met a lot of fun people so I continued to go.”

Plus, she added, “the events are fun and you get a lot of free food!”

Schlemm said one of her favorite QUAD events was when the physical therapy majors gave out free massages in the student center.

Some of the other events QUAD has put on in the past have included apples to apples, pool tournaments, tie-dying and a trip to a haunted house for Halloween. Carnival and game nights have also been very popular.

To kick off the month of February, QUAD put on an event called “Take a Chance,” which was an event that consisted of such games such as bowling, basket toss, and hula hoop. Contestants played the games to receive tickets that they could turn in at the end of the night for prizes such as board games, candy or stuffed animals.

On Feb 15-16 QUAD will be putting on two separate events. One will be a spin off game of the hit game-show ‘Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader?’ and the other will be a spinoff of the extremely popular game show ‘Deal or No Deal.’

This semester Jacobson is excited to lead his team to plan and organize many fun and exciting events for more students to come and enjoy.

QUAD invited everyone to come and enjoy their fun filled nights of free food and games.

The organization meets every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Student Center room 227. Everyone is welcome to attend and join.
