When the sun is shining students can be found playing wiffle ball on the field and sun bathing on the quad. But as we all know, there seems to be a large number of rainy days here at Quinnipiac. Rain boots, umbrellas and even boats can be necessary for arriving to class safely on these days. But what is there to do once you’ve returned to the comfort of your own room?
First of all there are the basics.
“On rainy days, my roommates and I like to have movie marathons,” said Brianne O’Hare, a sophomore media studies major. “Our favorite movie to watch is the Notebook. It’s girly, but it’s definitely a rainy day kind of a thing.”
In addition to movie marathons, most TV shows can be purchased on DVD. This is the perfect way to catch up with past seasons of current favorites or just relive classic moments.
Another essential rainy day activity is playing games.
“We like to play catch phrase,” said Andrew Fletcher, a sophomore print journalism major. “We tend to get pretty into it. It gets intense.”
Whether it is a board game, card game or video game, it’s a guaranteed way to take up hours and if you’re playing with the right group have a lot of fun.
It’s also always a good idea to take advantage of a rainy day by doing that laundry that has piled up over the last couple weeks. Although it can be tricky to get a machine, you willl be glad you did it.
For the athletes out there, it’s always a good idea to play a game in the gym.
“The gym is the perfect size for a game of wiffle ball,” says Fletcher.
The athletic center is open most days until 11 p.m., making it readily available.
“And the best part is that it’s dry,” he said.
But if getting wet in the rain isn’t a concern, consider outside activities.
“My favorite thing about rainy days is mud sliding,” said Dan Pressl, a sophomore finance major. “It kills the stomach and if you hit a rock you’re screwed, but it’s worth it.”
Stacey Dwire, junior physician’s assistant major, also enjoys the pastime.
“My friends and I love to do it. The key is to wear dark clothes,” Dwire said.
So whether you’re watching a movie, playing catch phrase or sliding in the mud, rainy days can be anything but boring.
