Redscroll Records, located on 24 North Colony Street in Wallingford, opened its doors to the public last Thursday.

The store will be specializing in music genres such as indie rock, hardcore, electronic, punk and metal. It will be carrying CDs, records, DVDs, books, clothing, incense, body jewelry, pins and patches.

Owners Josh Carlson and Rick Sinkiewicz have been friends for about four years and met through attending local shows. With much effort, they have finally been able to open a store after running a mobile distribution operation carrying 10,000 titles, which was under the same name. Both owners have extensive experience in Connecticut’s underground music scene.

Carlson promotes shows in the area, and both he and Sinkiewicz are hoping to put on shows through the promotion of the store. “We’re looking to do two to three shows a month,” Carlson said. He is the editor of a fanzine and also has a record label under the name Redscroll Records, with bands such as Transistor and Wrench in the Works signed to it.

Sinkiewicz has two degrees, one in Broadcast Communications and another in Music & Sound Engineering, from the University of New Haven. While attending UNH he became a part of Manic Productions, which is a local company that puts on concerts at different halls around Connecticut. It was then that Sinkiewicz realized that the recording aspect of music was more of a hobby and he was interested more so the promotions of music. He also has been involved and continues to work with several college radio stations, including UNH’s station.

This is the first store that both men have opened. Carlson and Sinkiewicz hope to be able to provide customers with a more diverse selection than that of a big chain music store. The store will be open everyday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
