New art club debuts

Quinnipiac students will soon have the option of joining a new club at Quinnipiac.

The QU Art Club is in the process of becoming officially recognized on the campus.

“There are so many clubs that only certain people will join. I hope this is a club that brings together students of all grade levels and all backgrounds,” said Christine Aliberti, sophomore occupational therapy major and founder of the club.

Alberti has always had a great interest in art and has spent many afternoons visiting art Galleries around her home back in New York.

Her vision for a QU Art Club grew out of a small online club she started last fall on the familiar student Web site,

“There are over 30 people who have joined the Facebook version of the club, and many other students who are not a member of the group on Facebook told me they would join the QU Art Club. I think it will be a big turnout,” Alberti said.

Although Quinnipiac currently has five active clubs that fall under the category of “Art,” the QU Art Club has something new to offer. It allows students to share their personal favorites, while gaining insight into what others admire as well.

“There are so many different kinds of art: pottery, sculpture, painting, and even different kinds of painting. This will be a club for students to share the kind of art they make or they love, and hopefully inspire one another in the process,” Aliberti said.

However you don’t have to be an artist to join this club. All one needs is an appreciation or even just an interest in art. Students can come simply to learn about different kinds of art, or they can come to find the artist in them.

“It will be a place for learning which techniques work for them, and how they enjoy expressing themselves through creating something,” Alberti said.

The club also plans to go beyond the Quinnipiac campus to enjoy artwork done by others on visits to art shows and museums in the area.

“I think that it is important for people to express themselves, and I think art is one of the best ways we can do that. I want to make sure everyone who wants to be a part of this club has the chance to,” Alberti said.
