Scott Hazan, the assistant director of the student center and student leadership, is leaving Quinnipiac and continuing his career at Central Connecticut.
Hazan is responsible for all major campus programming, including the Student Programming Board (SPB), the Student Government Association (SGA), the freshmen class cabinet, QU After Dark (QUAD), and May Weekend festivities. He supervises graduate assistants and is an advisor to the Student Programming Board. Hazan also coordinates the emerging leaders on the leadership program.
Before coming to Quinnipiac, Hazan held a position at Southampton College in student activities. Disliking the corporate world, he decided to take on a position at Quinnipiac.
Hazan began working at the university in the summer of 2004. According to Hazan, those he met during his interview process were the reason he was so attracted to the campus.
Hazan set goals before beginning his new project. He began working with the Greek and media groups. He wanted to research and find out about the groups in an attempt to foster a community mentality.
Despite the extensive work Hazan has undertaken, some successes are more prominent than others. Planning the Yellowcard concert this past fall sticks out in his mind, as well as aiding in the leadership program.
“Having the opportunity to play a key role in revamping the leadership program has been a great experience and a great accomplishment,” Hazan said.
Hazan also points to the more personal connections as accomplishments in themselves.
“The smaller things are what matter to me the most – the one-on-one conversations with the students. The relationships built and seeing the growth of students,” Hazan said.
Hazan offered a few words of advice for his predecessor. “Have fun, and enjoy. This is a great opportunity to work with students who are passionate about what they do,” Hazan said.
Hazan also left advice for the university students. “Be passionate, follow your dreams and goals even if it’s not what everyone else believes in. Don’t just take ‘no’ for an answer. Push the limits,” Hazan said.
