Fekete named president of NEILA

For many, coaching a Division-I college team is tough enough as it is. There are long hours of studying game footage, tiring practices, a hectic schedule that can take you all over the country and the pressure of winning and losing. But men’s lacrosse coach Eric Fekete is not only up to the task of coaching the Bobcats, but having his hand in all the lacrosse programs in the region.

Fekete was recently named president of the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, or NEILA. The organization is the major body of the New England Collegiate Lacrosse, and is in charge of selecting the All New England Selection Team and the All New England Academic Team. Coach Fekete welcomes his new position.

“There is a lot of responsibility with this position, and I appreciate the vote of confidence from my peers. This organization does a lot for lacrosse,” Fekete said.

Other NEILA duties include setting a coaches agenda for the year, organizing local youth clinics and running a lacrosse conference in Boston over the summer.

Although this may seem like a lot, coach Fekete says balancing both sets of duties won’t be a problem.

“I don’t see this taking anything away from my coaching,” Fekete said. “I have two great assistants [Todd Pagel and Brendan Talbot] with the program. I now have a great responsibility to New England lacrosse. It’s a great thing to do, and I appreciate the support of everyone here and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to help promote more positive growth and development for New England lacrosse.”
