A guide to intramurals

Attention sports fans! Is watching sports on TV not enough for you? Do you want to get out on a field and actually play a sport? If your answer to these questions in yes, then this is the column for you. Quinnipiac University offers a wide variety of intramural sports. The best aspect of this is that the sports change with the season.

To start off this fall, the intramural department offers men’s and women’s flag football. Not to mention Co-ed soccer, Field Hockey, yes guys, you can play field hockey too, Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournaments, and Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee.

Do not despair if these fall sports fail to catch your interest. Once these sports wrap-up, the department changes its focus to three on three basketball and four player volleyball. These two sports conclude the fall semester.

After we get back from winter break, intramurals starts off the semester with five on five basketball and six player volleyball. Once these sports come to an end, softball becomes the feature sport. Men’s, women’s, and co-ed leagues are all offered during this time.

The intramural department will also offer two new sports this year: indoor soccer and Frisbee golf. Currently, these sports have not been assigned a season, but will be in the near future. Check with the department for updates on these two new sports.

If you do not know where the Intramurals Office is located, do not worry. The office is not hard to find. If you walk into the gym through the main entrance, the Intramural Office is directly across from the men and women’s bathrooms. It may not be big, but it is there.

If you are interested in playing any fall sports, pay attention to this next paragraph.

The entry deadline for flag football and co-ed soccer rosters is September 15 by noon. Field Hockey and both tennis tournaments are due by noon, September 22. Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee is due by noon, September 23. Due dates of all the other sports will be announced as the season approaches.

If you cannot get a full team together, but would still like to play a sport, contact the Intramural Office and your name will be placed on a list. If there are any open spots, you may be placed on a team. There are no guarantees this will happen, but the department makes every effort possible to accommodate students who are interested in playing.

If you enter a league, you will be required to submit a forfeit fee. This is simply money that secures your team a spot in the league, and also affirms that your team will show up every time it is scheduled to play. If you do not forfeit any games, your money will be returned. However, if your team forfeits any games, your money will be taken.

Any other questions or comments should be directed to the Intramural office at x5393.
