In their last home game of the regular season, Quinnipiac’s field hockey team dominated Siena College by a score of 5-0, to bring their record to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the NEC. Quinnipiac is in fourth place in the conference while Siena dropped to 0-14 overall as well as 0-6 in conference.
The dominance started early and continued throughout the game. Within the first three minutes Quinnipiac had already earned two penalty corners. The game was scoreless through the first 13 minutes until Amanda Danziger ripped a shot off of a penalty corner that found the back of the net. This goal however was taken away because Danziger’s shot was too high.
Quinnipiac wasn’t discouraged by the goal being taken away though, just seconds after the goal was taken away, Danielle Allan scored from far out to get the scoring going. Later in the half Christa Romano tacked on a goal to make the score 2-0 and to extend her point streak to four games.
All stats were dominated by Quinnipiac in the first half they led shots on goal nine to one, they also led penalty corners four to zero, and the most important category of all, points, was in their favor as well 2-0 at halftime.
The second half was no different for Quinnipiac. The combination of Cate Colucci and Jennalise Taylor came through with two straight goals in the second half. Taylor later assisted on a goal by Ashleigh Allen. Taylor ended the game with three assists, while Colucci had two goals.
“They were really great in the second half,” Quinnipiac head coach Becca Main said when asked of the Colucci-Taylor combination. “The whole team played really well today and very inspired.”
Quinnipiac scored three of their five goals off of penalty corners, and coach Main said that was something that was really focused on during practice this week.
“We put a lot of work in on our corners on the turf this week,” Main said. “We did a really good job executing them today.”
The win over Siena brings Quinnipiac’s all-time record against them to 17-1. The Bobcats will now finish the regular season off at Bryant University on Sunday before the NEC tournament.
