The Student Programming Board (SPB) will sponsor the annual “Helping Hands” event this year in honor of the Children’s Center of Hamden. The Children’s Center provides services for children with special needs and disabilities.
The Helping Hands holiday party will be held in Alumni Hall on Dec. 7 from noon until 3 p.m. The children will be coming to play games, eat, receive their gifts and interact with Quinnipiac students.
All Quinnipiac students are invited to attend to support SPB and the children from the Children’s Center.
At this time, SPB is accepting donations in any amount to go towards buying holiday gifts for the children. Donations can be made by calling x6620 on campus or can be dropped off at SPB meetings on Mondays at 4:15 p.m. in SC 207.
Donations are also being accepted at the tables set up in the Student Center, as well as through the “dorm storming” SPB has done in the last few weeks. Members of SPB have also received sponsor sheets to take home with them over Thanksgiving Break to obtain donations from their families and friends.
All of the gifts are made possible through donations, and Phi Sigma is providing gift-wrapping. The SPB Special Events committee is in charge of buying the gifts and organizing the party.
In the past, SPB has requested that donators sponsor a child to specifically fulfill that child’s holiday wish. However, the Children’s Center is a new group that SPB is working with and have requested standardized gifts for the children, which is why only donations are being accepted.
However, the children were able to make wish lists for specific games and food they would like at the party.
According to SPB, the purpose of the event is to give something back to the community and give the children a good holiday.
