The Quinnipiac men’s cross country team finished 22 out of 33 teams, while the women placed 31 out of 36 squads at the 2002 NCAA East Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon.
Freshmen Michael Charron and Katie Gwyther posted the top individual finishes for the Bobcats, taking 95 and 61, respectively.
The men’s team finished with 571 points, while the women posted 803.
On the men’s side, Charron finished in 33:16.9, followed by junior Tim Moylan who was 98 in 33:26.1 and freshman Todd Raymond who was 104 in 33:37.9. Freshmen Greg Brink (135, 34:21.7), Jeffrey Roginielewicz (139, 34:26.0) and Anthony Mio (150, 34:43.8) rounded out the top six finishers for Quinnipiac.
Iona College took the team title, finishing with 59 points, while Tom McArdle of Dartmouth was the individual winner in 30:04.7.
On the women’s side, Gwyther set a school record for 6,000-meters with a time of 22:40.1.
Freshman Danielle Green was 165 in 24:33.8, followed by classmates Sarah DeFreitas (183, 24:51.9) and Katie Manger (202, 25:21.4). Junior Kate Gustafson (207, 25:32.2), junior Jamie Scholl (224, 26:14.7) and senior Susanne Allen (227, 26:21.2) rounded out the top seven finishers for the Bobcats.
Columbia took the women’s team title with 70 points, while Kate O’Neill of Yale was first individually in 20:45.3.
