The Rolling Stones and Another Day Wasted may seem generations apart, but they do have two things in common: both have played the fabled stage of Toad’s Place in New Haven.
And, like the Stones, the Quinnipiac University-based will be performing throughout the fall.
The band, formally known as Kadence, features seniors Vinny Caruso, John Bartlett, Anthony Galasso, Ryan Bean and Jason Grimes.
They jump-started the school year on Sept. 10 at Local Bands’ Night at Toad’s. Some 100 Quinnipiac students attended the ADW performance.
Unlike other bands who preferred to jam with each other that night, Another Day Wasted decided to “rock the place” itself, according to Galosso.
A boisterous crowd of anxious QU students waited patiently for the band to take the stage, seemingly tolerating the bands that played prior to ADW’s performance.
Deirdre Boylan, a senior Communications major, said the performance exceeded expectations by a wide margin.
“For their first concert of the year, they did absolutely awesome,” said Boylan. “What a way to start out the year.”
Another Day Wasted performed several new songs that are set to appear on their yet to be titled new CD.
The disc will be available by the end of September. New songs include “Long Days Work,” “Awaiting Blue,” Desperado,” and “Traveled.”
The band spent the summer working on the CD, recording with New York-based record company Avatar Studios.
The audience at the Toad’s performance showed their familiarity with the group’s work by singing along with “Shifting Surfaces.” The crowed cheered the band at every opportunity.
The band did not think they played in top form, however.
“We thought it sounded awful on stage,” said Galasso, “and we know what we are capable of.”
Another Day Wasted will perform on Sept. 20 at Alumni Hall as part of the AIDs benefit.
On Oct. 6, the band will play at the opening of the Albert Schweitzer Foundation at Quinnipiac.
