Say no to TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress.” Watch for one minute and you are sucked in to its gratuitous awfulness of brides-to-be looking for their perfect dress. Now, there is no issue with brides wanting to have the perfect wedding day, but not making a budget for the dress is just crazy. Why spend so much money for a dress that will only be worn for a few hours? The smarter brides on the show have a budget on their dress, but even those figures are astronomical. Not to say brides should find their dress at Wal-Mart (unless this is a girl featured on MTV’s “Sixteen and Pregnant”.), but it is entirely possible to find the perfect dress for under $1000. The best part of “Say Yes to the Dress” is seeing a best friend shop with the bride. And minutes later, the bride will confess to the camera that her friend who has gone gown shopping is not part of the bridal party. Yikes! That is the most delicious part of a rather stale show. This show reinforces to me that one large wedding is not all that is cracked up to be. Just elope and call it a day.
