Quinnipiac University officially reinstated its volleyball team today after a judge issued an injunction preventing the University from cutting it last weekend.
Quinnipiac will now eliminate its men’s indoor track team in addition to the men’s outdoor track and golf teams. Cheerleading will still be promoted to varsity status.
The volleyball team sued the University last month, arguing the school violated Title IX gender equity provisions. The team was defended by the American Civil Liberties Union.
The University also announced that Mark Thompson, senior vice president for academic and student affairs, will begin a review of the offices of athletic compliance and the athletic director. If necessary, he will make changes to ensure that participation numbers among the athletic teams “are accurate and adhered to by all coaches,” said a statement released by Associate Vice President for Public Relations John Morgan.
