Couples We Hate:
Name: Heidi (Heidi Montag) and Spencer (Spencer Pratt) (a.k.a ‘Speidi’) (“The Hills”)
Status: “Married”
Why we hate them: Besides being one of the most annoying celebrity couples, ‘Speidi’ flaunt the fact that they are a well-known brand for celebrity gossip, stretching their 15 minutes of fame a little too far. They both refer to themselves as entertainers when that could not be further from the truth. Bloggers like Perez Hilton have a good time poking fun at the duo. The stories and gossip may have been amusing in the past, but the drama has got to stop. They claim they truly care about each other and are very much in love. However, one has to wonder if it is all a publicity scam or the real thing. Will Heidi and her nonexistent singing career, along with Spencer, and his creepy flesh-covered beard, ever go away?
Name: Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena (Blake Lively) (“Gossip Girl”)
Status: Broken Up
Why we hate them: Enough is enough. All of this back and forth nonsense is enough to make any “Gossip Girl” fan dizzy. While the couple was adorable in the past, their bipolar relationship and indecisiveness is too much to handle. The two have overdone it trying constantly to reconcile and overcome their differences. There may have been fans in the past that have rooted for Dan and Serena to get past their issues. Yet, there was a collective sigh of relief during the last episode when they mutually decided their relationship was not working out. Good choice, guys.
Name: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) (“Grey’s Anatomy”)
Status: Dating
Why we hate them: Meredith’s whiny and irritating voice has nothing to do with the utter atrocity of the Meredith and Derek coupling on “Grey’s Anatomy.” The two of them together are actually worse than Ellen Pompeo’s voice. Since the first season of the series, Meredith and Derek have gone back and forth. The two have their share of problems and the only possible reason for them to keep it together is due to the fact that no one else would ever want to deal with them.
Couples We Love:
Name: Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) (“The Office”)
Status: Engaged
Why we love them: This adorable twosome has made fans laugh and cry since 2005 as they struggled with their feelings for one another. After all, Pam had been in a lengthy relationship with fiancé Roy since high school. Why would Pam risk everything for Jim? Their chemistry is undeniable and sometimes, the risk is worth taking. Despite taking a year for Pam to admit her feelings to Jim after he tearfully expressed how he felt in season two, the duo have been going strong since the third season finale. Jim and Pam work due to the insatiable chemistry between stars John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. What makes Jim and Pam so unique is how their relationship is so delicately handled by the writers. They give them real life problems such as paying for a mortgage and dealing with physical separation, so Pam could attend art school in New York. After the incredible proposal in the rain at the beginning of this season, viewers are waiting for the two to finally walk down the aisle.
Name: Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) (“Chuck”)
Status: “Dating”
Why we love them: Chuck and Sarah have been “dating” since the beginning of “Chuck.” Ever since Chuck opened an e-mail with secret government information sent to him from a rogue spy that quickly encoded in his brain, the C.I.A. brought in Sarah to protect Chuck. As a cover, Sarah works at a frozen yogurt shop and “dates” Chuck in front of his friends and family to protect his secret. Their relationship was meant to be strictly professional, but the sexual tension between the two burns through the television screen every week.
Name: Eric (Kyle Chandler) and Tami (Connie Britton) (“Friday Night Lights”)
Status: Married
Why we love them: Coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami best represent a contemporary married television couple. The two have the typical husband and wife discussions. They work together at the local high school (Eric is head coach of the football team, while Tami is the new Principal). Eric and Tami struggle while raising their teenage daughter and handling their new baby. Above all, the characters are realistic; their moments together are full of honesty unlike most television couples. The irresistible chemistry between Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton makes “Friday Night Lights” all the more worthwhile. Chandler and Britton are two are the many reasons to watch this struggling NBC drama.
Name: Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) (“One Tree Hill”)
Status: Married
Why we love them: Besides the fact that they are the parents to the most adorable child, Jamie, their characters always seem to be truly in love. What started out as a plan to irritate his brother, Lucas, turned into a wonderful romance. Despite the fact that Nathan and Haley have had their rough patches in the past, they have overcome them and have grown stronger. Renewing their vows proved to be the best decision for the two of them, enforcing the feelings they had for each other since high school. Their support for one another’s careers and their constant happiness makes them a couple fans continue to enjoy watching.
Name: Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Matthew Settle) (“Gossip Girl”)
Status: Dating
Why we love them: As selfless as Lily was in the past to marry Bart Bass so Serena could be with Dan (Rufus’ son), Lily’s true feelings for Rufus have re-surfaced in recent episodes. Not only did the two have a child together many years ago, but they have openly admitted to loving each other ever since despite the other relationships they have endured. Unfortunately, this poses as an awkward situation for Dan and Serena. However, Lily and Rufus deserve their time in the spotlight. They are adorable together and appear to be very much in love. At least the two can fill in for Dan and Serena-a couple many “Gossip Girl” fans could use a break from.
