The nominations are in, and some of today’s film favorites are up for an Oscar.
At the announcement of the Academy Awards last week, the film, “Gladiator,” starring Russel Crowe, garnered 12 Oscar nominations. These awards include those for Leading Actor, Supporting Actor, Costume Design, and Best Picture.
If “Gladiator’s” success at this year’s Golden Globes, with their win of the category of Best Motion Picture Drama tells a story, they might just walk away the Oscar for Best Picture. While Russell Crowe has some formidable competition in the category of Leading Actor, he may just walk away with a golden statue.
Next in line with the second highest number of nominations is “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” They received 10 nominations, including those for Foreign Language Film and Best Picture.
Some of today’s hottest actors and actresses are also in the running for an Oscar. Julia Roberts has been nominated for Leading Actress for her role in “Erin Brokovich.” Tom Hanks may also walk away with an Oscar for Leading Actor, for his incredible performance in “Cast Away”. One might wonder why Hanks’ volleyball friend didn’t get a nomination for Supporting Actor.
Be sure to watch the 73rd Annual Academy Awards on Mar. 25, 2001, on ABC.
