The Quinnipiac field hockey team ended its season with a 4-2 loss to Sacred Heart in the NEC semifinals on Friday in Lock Haven, Pa. Junior forward Jennifer Kinchla tied a Northeast Conference tournament record with two goals.
The Bobcats finished with a 10-9 record, while the Sacred Heart Pioneers improved to 15-4 and advanced to the championship game against Lock Haven.
The Bobcats outshot Sacred Heart 17-5 in the first half, and had a 10-3 edge in penalty corners. But it was Sacred Heart’s Melissa Mazin who scored first at 19:34 with an unassisted goal.
Kinchla scored late in the half with a shot off Jaime Cassesse’s penalty corner. The assist was Cassesse’s 12th of the season, setting a new single-season program record.
At 8:51 in the second, the Pioneers’ Colleen Carney scored an unassisted goal. Only 47 seconds later, Kinchla scored her second goal, unassisted.
SHU took the lead back, however, and never let it up. Four minutes after Kinchla, Sacred Heart’s Jenn Howley scored a goal. Howley scored again later in the half to make it 4-2 in favor of the Pioneers.
Jenna Grossman finished with six saves for the Bobcats.
