The Quinnipiac volleyball team fell to Providence lats Wednesday evening 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-27) in a non-conference match. Bobcat Jenna Benigno finished with her fifth double-double (10 kills and 10 digs) of the season and the eighth of her career. Four other players matched or posted career season highs despite the loss.
Stephanie Logan and Benigno tied with a team-high two blocks each. Ashley Angle, Stephanie Conde, Ashley Phillips and Erin Overdevest all matched or posted season highs with 11 digs, .385 hitting percentage, 30 assists, and two service aces respectively.
The first two sets were a tough match for the Bobcats. The Providence Friars scored the first point in the third set, but the Bobcats were very competitive. The Friars were up 8-3, but the Bobcats would not let up scoring five straight points to tie it at 8. Overdevest scored the fifth of these on a service ace.
The lead volleyed back and forth through the remainder of the match. With the Friars ahead 29-26, facing set and match point, Benigno scored on a kill assisted by Phillips to keep the team in the game at 29-27. Providence’s Sara Sheehan killed any hopes of a fourth set with her match-high 18th kill and the Friars won with a 30-27 set victory and the match.
“At times we played very very well tonight and competed very hard. We just had many too many unforced errors on our side of the net and at critical times,” head coach Sue Medley said.
The Bobcats lost 3-1 to Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner over the weekend to fall to 1-3 in the NEC.
