Are you man enough to grow a mustache for kids? Have you always wondered what you would look like with a mustache? Well now is your chance.
WQAQ 98.1 FM, the soundtrack of Quinnipiac, is hosting a charity drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of New Haven in which participant will receive donations to grow mustaches.
The drive officially begins on Monday October 11th, lasting one month through the donation ceremony, which will take place on Monday November 15th. Everyone is encouraged to participate, including students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The goal of the drive is for Quinnipiac students and faculty to raise donations by growing stand-alone mustaches.
“The Boys and Girls Club is really in rough shape now-a-days. They are in desperate need of materials to be used teach people how to read,” Rory Condon, junior Co-production director for the radio station, said.
“They need more money desperately to continue their philanthropy and we are looking forward to raising money helping them out.”
The Boys and Girls Club of New Haven seeks to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
The Boys and Girls Club of New Haven is a member of the Greater New Haven Literacy Coalition, which seeks to promote literacy throughout the city of New Haven and its surrounding communities.
This is the first charity event WQAQ 98.1 FM has done in quite some time but they plan on doing more work for charities because it is a good thing for the radio station and the community as a whole.
“Kids can’t grow mustaches so we have to do it for them,” Steve Logo, media production major, said.
“If someone can’t grow a mustache for any reason because of age, sex- we understand some females may not be comfortable or able to grow a mustache-or religion, WQAQ 98.1 FM will provide them with a fake mustache to wear,” Condon said.
“There are also other opportunities in which people can be involved, such as sponsoring someone else through making a donation.”
“Every little bit will make a difference.”
There is no excuse to not get involved with this fundraiser, as it is a great cause for underprivileged children in the area.
After the drive is over, the radio station staff plans to have a “shave-off” party for all of the participants that choose to grow their own mustaches.
There will be awards given to the participants, one for who bring in the largest amount of money in donations and another for the participant with the best mustache overall.
If anyone is interested in getting involved, you can pick up an application for the charity drive by stopping by the radio station, which is located on the second floor of the Carl Hansen Student Center.
