The Quinnipiac women’s volleyball team continued their rough season after losing 3-0 in straight sets to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart on Saturday. The team is now on a seven-game losing streak, falling to 1-13 with a 0-4-conference record this year. They have also failed to win a single set 19 consecutive times dating back to their 3-1 loss at the hands of Fordham University on Sept. 15.
The Bobcats fell behind early in each set, and would lose the first set in a close score of 27-25, but would not come close in the final two sets losing 25-18 and 25-15 respectively.
“We played well during the first set as our blocking was there, but in both the second and third sets our blocking and defense just fell apart, and that is what I saw.” Quinnipiac head coach Kris Czaplinski said.
Czaplinski is the first-year head coach for Quinnipiac and coming into this job, he wanted to improve on the team’s defense alongside all of their offensive power, but this has not been the case this season so far.
Sacred Heart freshman, Karly Shockey contributed ten kills. Sophomore Alisa Mesa also played a huge role against the Bobcats who gave the Pioneers 31 aces along with 14 digs.
The Bobcat’s lone offensive talents were led by Tanner Celestin as she contributed 11 kills. Tierra Allan totaled 15 digs for the team and Brittanie Robinson had 20 aces, three digs, and also four blocks on the afternoon.
