The majority of Quinnipiac students, both male and female, seem to be able to take care of themselves quite well, according to the results of a survey done by the Chronicle staff.
The survey looked at things such as doing laundry, filling up gas and cooking, and compared the answers with what students know now to what they knew before they came to Quinnipiac
Out of the surveyed students, 67 percent were female. Thirty percent were freshmen, 21 percent were sophomores, 34 percent were juniors and 15 percent were seniors.
Niney two percent of the surveyed students said they know how to do their own laundry, but only 71 percent knew how to do laundry before they came to Quinnipiac.
Filling up gas had no significant difference before and after coming to Quinnipiac. Eighty-eight percent said they know how, and 86 percent knew how before they came to Quinnipiac.
Seventy-four percent claim to know how to cook at least three balanced meals containing all four food groups, and 69 percent said they knew that before they came to Quinnipiac.
When the survey is broken down to males and females, the results are more significant. Ninety-seven percent of the females said they know how to do laundry, compared to 81 percent of the males. Before they came to Quinnipiac, 78 percent of the females and only 56 percent of the males knew how to do laundry.
On the other hand, all males – 100 percent – said they know how to fill up gas, and knew before they came to school, while only 82 percent of the females know how, and only 80 percent knew before they came to Quinnipiac.
Cooking seems to be the least popular of the three, with only 60 percent of the males claiming to know how to cook, while 81 percent of the females said the same. Before they came to Quinnipiac, however, only 56 percent of the males and 76 percent of the females knew how to cook.
The female seniors and juniors produced somewhat higher than average female results on all questions, while the freshmen were a little below average in everything except doing laundry.
The male sophomores were the worst at cooking at 29 percent, compared to the male average at 60 percent. The results between male freshmen, juniors, sophomores and seniors were widely varying, except for filling up gas.
Total results, however, seem to show that even if Quinnipiac stuents didn’t know how to take care of themselves before they came here, they definitely know it now!
This survey was not scientific, and only represents the students who chose to participate.
