The Quinnipiac women’s hockey team came from behind to defeat conference opponent Clarkson 3-2 in overtime Saturday night on the road. Freshman forward Kelly Babstock’s scored her third hat trick of the year.
Babstock’s game-winner came at the 3:25 mark in overtime, which also marked her conference-leading 20th goal of the season. Kate Wheeler and Erica Uden Johansson assisted the goal.
The Bobcats (15-7-1, 8-6-0 ECAC) outshot Clarkson 43-32 in the game, including a 4-1 edge in overtime.
The Golden Knights (6-12-3, 3-5-1 ECAC) were able to strike first on senior forward Melissa Waldie’s team leading 9th goal of the year at the 10:41 mark of the first period.
The Bobcats evened the score at 1 at the 9:39 mark of the second period. Babstock collected a rebound off her first shot attempt, skated between two Clarkson defenders and wristed the puck past Clarkson goalie Lauren Dahm for her first goal of the game.
Clarkson regained the lead when freshman forward Vanessa Gagnon scored her first goal of the season at the 3:29 mark of the third period.
Quinnipiac tied the score at 2 with just less than six minutes to play in the game when Babstock yet again was able to find the back of the net. Sophomore defenders Regan Boulton and Felica Vieweg recorded assists on the play.
Neither team was able to convert on their power-play opportunities throughout the game. The Bobcats went 0-5 ok n their power play, while Clarkson was 0-2.
The Bobcats return to action at Jan. 18 when they host non-conference opponent New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
