The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team battled to a 0-0 draw against Cornell on Friday. It was the first time the two teams tied against each other since Dec. 31, 2009.
Freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti had a career game, stopping a season-high 37 shots, including 19 of them in the third period, and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
Vigilanti was on the puck early, stopping a one-one-one attack from Catherine White within 30 seconds of the game. Vigilanti stopped nine shots within the first period.
Vigilanti and the Big Red’s goaltender, Amanda Mazzotta, had a goaltender’s battle in the second period. Vigilanti stopped another nine shots in the period. Quinnipiac forward Brittany Lyons had the best chance of scoring a goal in the period, with a one-one-one opportunity, but Mazzotta was able to stop it in the air.
In the third period, Vigilanti stopped 18 shots, including several dives during a Bobcats’ penalty kill midway through the period, keeping Cornell off the scoreboard. She then deflected one more shot in overtime for a grand total of 37 shots saved.
Mazzotta finished with 14 saves and recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
